What is Vineyard
About Us
The Vineyard is a church movement which began back in the
1980s through the leadership of John Wimber.
It currently comprises of more than 1500 Vineyard Churches
worldwide with around 120 Churches in the UK & Ireland. Through the Vineyard
movement churches are equipped to continue Jesus’ ministry of proclaiming the
kingdom, demonstrating the kingdom and training disciples.
Vineyard Churches UK & Ireland was formed for the
purpose of joining together churches who hold common values and practices. A
major part of VCUK&I is to support, serve and strengthen the churches
within the movement. It is often said, ‘our aim in VCUK&I is to do all we
can to help you become all that you can in Christ...’. VCUKI is committed to
the view that this can only be achieved through the building and sustaining of
strong relationships among us based on love, openness and trust.
It is governed by a Council through a number of Task Forces
and a Board of Trustees which gives oversight to the pastors of existing
churches and facilitates widespread church planting.
Our National Directors are John & Eleanor Mumford,
together they worked for nearly two years with John Wimber on the staff of
Anaheim Vineyard in California before planting South West London Vineyard in
1987. They handed over the leadership of that Church in 2008 in order to
concentrate upon the oversight and development of the Vineyard movement, both
nationally and internationally.
There are 10 areas within the UK & Ireland at present
overseen by Area leaders who provide oversight, vision, resources and support
for the local Vineyard Churches.
Blackburn Vineyard Church is part of the North Area
overseen by David and Alison Flowers of the Wharfedale Vineyard.
